Why go to Sikkim
Sikkim packs an extraordinary range into a small state. In a single week you can stand beside a frozen lake at 17,000 feet, walk through rhododendron forest, and sit in a monastery courtyard while the clouds clear off Kanchenjunga.
Most trips base in Gangtok, add a day for Tsomgo Lake and Nathula, then head north to Lachung for Yumthang Valley. The old Silk Route around Zuluk is a quieter alternative with some of the best road views anywhere in India.
North Sikkim needs permits and the roads are slow. Six to seven nights is the sensible minimum if you want to include Yumthang without rushing.

Practical notes before you book
Do I need a permit for Sikkim?
Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit for North Sikkim, Nathula and Zuluk. You will need photo ID and passport-sized photographs. We arrange permits as part of your package. Foreign nationals need additional clearance and cannot visit some areas.
When does Yumthang Valley open?
The road to Lachung and Yumthang is usually open from March to early December, but heavy snow can close it at short notice in winter and early spring. We keep alternate plans ready and will tell you honestly if conditions look poor.
Is the altitude a problem?
Parts of the route cross 12,000 ft and Gurudongmar is close to 17,800 ft. Most travellers are fine, but plan a rest day, keep hydrated, and tell us in advance about any heart or breathing condition so we can pace the itinerary.
Can I visit Gurudongmar Lake?
Yes, from Lachen, subject to permits, weather and army clearance on the day. It is a very early start and a long drive at high altitude, so it suits travellers who are comfortable with a demanding day.
How are the roads?
Hill roads in Sikkim are slow and can be affected by landslides during monsoon, June to September. Distances that look short on a map often take several hours. Our drivers work these routes regularly.
